Hello,
who is not knowledgeable about web design. My web designer is MIA for a few weeks and I'm trying to solve a website problem myself. Here are the facts of my situation:
- Website has been running fine for 2 years, since it was created
- Website is strictly promotional so people can view samples of our design work--no commerce on web
- Website does have a "client login" which clients can use to view the physical inventory we hold for them. The link is rarely used and could be eliminated, if necessary.
- Hosting is through Go Daddy
- In October, Go Daddy told me that unless I purchased an SSL certificate from them, that my website would not be accessible in Google Chrome and Google will flag my website as "not secure" unless it has https". They said I HAD to have this because of the "client login" on my page.
- I bought/paid for the SSL Cert from Go Daddy in October
So here's the problem and question for you knowledgeable tech guru's: The website works and views properly only if people don't type the "www" in front of my domain name on Firefox or Internet Explorer. It does not view properly on Google Chrome no matter what I do. It views perfectly on Safari--at least the iPhone view I'm looking at. Someone told me to call Go Daddy and tell them we needed the SSL both ways--with and without the "www" in front of our domain. Go Daddy wants $272 MORE to "register the 2nd domain". I said this is not a 2nd domain--it's still my same domain, why do I have to pay double? Are they trying to do a sell job on me or is this legit that I would need to pay for both? I told him I will get rid of the "client login" on my website and then I won't need any SSL at all. Go Daddy minion says I would still need an SSL or my website or it won't appear on Google. He says that Google demands an SSL for ALL websites to appear secure. Truth?
Please help.
Thanks!
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
